I was sleeping peacefully and already late for the class. Suddenly, my phone rang, and it was my classmate, Sarthak. He said, “Hey Priyank, what are you doing?” And I was like sleeping. He said, “ I have some bags with me, so can you keep that in your room?” I wanted to sleep, but anyway, I said yes and asked him to meet me at the hostel gate. I took his bags and came back to my room. Then I thought, “ I am awake. Why miss the class?” I brushed my teeth and hurried up to the class. I was already 40 minutes late, but that class goes for like two periods, so I thought I could at least get attendance of the second period. Midway, I got a call from my dad, and I was 5 more minutes late. I was on the door, asked the teacher if I could come in, and he said no. I was coming back, but then asked if I could come in for the next lecture, and he said no but immediately changed his mind and let me in. Also, he was kind enough to give me attendance for both periods.
My mood was not very great, and it was about to get worse.
After attending two labs for four periods, I came back to my room, took off my shirt, changed my pants, went to the washroom, and when I came back, what I saw was that there was a lock on my room. For a moment, I was like WTH. My friend’s room was also locked because both of them were in their class. I didn’t have my key, my phone, or anywhere to go. For a few minutes, I was just standing there with that hand wash bottle in my hand and trying to understand what had just happened. I was outside my room that was locked, I didn’t have my clothes put on, and nowhere to go.
After standing there for a few minutes, I remembered that there was a room of a senior whom we knew on the same floor. I went to his room, asked him to call my friend who was also a classmate of my roommate. I called him thrice with his phone, and every time, all I could hear was him walking and nothing else. It was like the call was getting picked up while the phone was in his pocket. I got furious and called another friend. He was also in the class and didn’t pick up the call first. After a few calls, he picked up and said that he was in class and immediately cut the call. I called him again and said it was me speaking and asked him about Chandan’s classroom. He said it was 217. I borrowed a t-shirt and a pair of pants from the senior and ran towards his class. I asked a person if it was section 7, which is, by the way, not his section. He said no, it’s not. I took a look at other nearby classes except for the class just next to it and. I went on the third floor. There I met one of our common friends, and I asked him to call Chandan. He did, and he replied that he was in class and to text on WhatsApp. We texted him on WhatsApp and asked for his classroom. Turns out it was 218 and section 12.
I went there, he came out of the class, and asked me, “What happened ?” I said nothing, just asked Raj for the keys, and he went inside the room and asked him to give me the keys. Suddenly, the teacher got interested and asked, “What’s the matter?” He said it’s Raj’s roommate and he is asking for the keys. Then she asked him to call me in, and I walked into the class. I saw Raj coming towards me with the keys, and he was handing over the keys to Chandan. Seeing this, I snapped at him and asked him to throw it to me as I was in a hurry, but the teacher didn’t like this. She was like, “What is this? Get out!” I kind of ignored it, and then she was like, “ I said, get out.” I went out waiting for the class to end. Seeing me waiting for the keys, Chandan took the key and was coming out, but she said, “If you go out to give him the keys, you will not get the attendance.” He came out anyway, handed me the keys, and said that he sacrificed his attendance for this.
I took the keys and ran towards the mess, did my lunch, and came back to the room. I then quickly changed my outfit and ran towards my class. I was late again, but this time I got an easy entry.
